Zara Phillips Land Rover viral

Bookmark Video

This viral advert from Land Rover featuring Zara Phillips is a follow-up to last year's effort where union star Josh Lewsey proved that rugby is better than football when his dog urinated on the ball of a footie-playing oik.

This one is similar, in that it again shows the moneyed classes to be vastly superior to working-class scum who play football and probably have ASBOs.

Land Rover's niche is that it is a premium product, and it's probably going to appeal directly to the type of people who may enjoy eventing and ferrying their horse box around on the back of their Rangeys.

But really, there's something quite objectionable to these adverts when you get down to it - a rather sneering pomposity that's quite disagreeable.

It also seems odd to aim an online viral campaign at a demographic that's probably not at the cutting edge of social media, but as Sav Evangelou, Wunderman Creative Director, says: “...we’re creating a reason for people who have no relationship with Land Rover or with Eventing to engage with us. By throwing it into the public arena we aim to drive debate.' So we'll see.

In this one a cockney oik gets his comeuppance when Zara Phillips' horse sneezes on him as he letches over lovely Zara - who's representing the British Eventing Team.

As the eldest granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II, Phillips is twelfth line to the throne.
