Orders open for new Skoda Octavia
New 2013 Skoda Octavia orders open this week as the Volkswagen-owned brand updates its popular large family car.
The new Skoda Octavia is Skoda's main Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Insignia rival and the new model will be the greenest and best-equipped version ever made.
Skoda will launch the Octavia with a choice of four new engines; 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre petrol options and 1.6 and 2.0-litre diesel units.
According to Vicky Magill, Skoda's UK product manager: 'Other engines were available to us but we wanted to keep it simple and keep every model with CO2 emissions below 130g/km.'
The impressive level of CO2 emissions from its main range will be beaten later in the year when an ultra-efficient diesel 'Greenline' version will arrive offering CO2 emissions of just 87g/km.
The new Skoda Octavia Greenline will be road tax free in the UK and exempt from London's congestion charge. Skoda hopes it will contribute to sales of around 10,000 units this year and a further 17,000 in 2014.
The new Octavia will be the third generation of the car which has been noted for its reliability, practicality and comfort - it is no surprise the Octavia is a favourite with the UK's taxi drivers.
The new Octavia is more spacious than ever with extra length offering more leg room and an extended boot space of 590 litres.
New technology includes a touch screen to control music, sat-nav and other multimedia, keyless start and, on higher levels, lane departure warning system and pop-up bonnet that lessens the impact if the car strikes a pedestrian.
Skoda Octavia prices start from £17,000 and top-level versions are priced around £23,000. Orders for the new Skoda Octavia begin this month for the hatchback version and an estate model will join the range in May.
A sportier vRS model will be available for UK customers in summer 2013.
