Peugeot to launch new petrol eco-signature
Peugeot has told MotorTorque that it’s new PureTech three-cylinder petrol engine, set to debut in the new 308 SW, will expand across its model range, becoming the new petrol eco-signature.
A Peugeot spokesperson said: “The new PureTech engine featured in the new 308 SW is not just a one-off, it is a volume engine. PureTech engines are able to offer the best of both worlds with efficiency and performance.
“Whereas Peugeot’s diesel range offers BlueHDi, the petrol range will now offer its own umbrella of eco-signature engines, PureTech."
Available in three variants, a 1.0-litre VTi (68bhp), 2.0-litre VTi (82bhp) and a 1.2-litre Turbo (110bhp and 130bhp), PureTech will keep Peugeot in the three-cylinder efficiency race against brands like Ford with its lucrative EcoBoost offering.
According to Peugeot, the first models to be available with the new PureTech three-cylinder will be the 308 SW, 308 hatchback, 108, 208 and 2008, with the latter two to be introduced in Q3 of 2014. From launch, the 1.2-litre Turbo variant will be exclusive to the new 308 SW range.
With efficiency details currently unannounced for the smallest Peugeot model, the 108, the most efficient PureTech offering is the 208 supermini. With the 1.0-litre 68bhp variant, the 208 emits just 99g/km of CO2 and returns a combined 66mpg.
The new PureTech three-cylinder petrol range will launch along with the Peugeot 308 SW in June.
