Jaguar has released details of the new XKR-S – the fastest production XK to date and limited to 200 models worldwide.

The cars will only be available to buy in Europe, says Jaguar, in both right-hand and left-hand drive, and can accelerate to 60mph in 4.9 seconds and on to 174mph courtesy of a 4.2-litre aluminium supercharged V8 developing 420bhp and 413lb-ft of torque.

XKR-S power is channelled through a six-speed automatic transmission with Jaguar Sequential Shift for manual gearshifts in milliseconds, using steering-wheel-mounted paddles. Jaguar says the XKR-S is 19mph faster than the XKR.

A revised suspension features bespoke springs, dampers, anti-roll bar and recalibrated Computer Active Technology Suspension, while a Alcon R Performance braking system is tasked with making the Jag's grand tourer stop.

A rigid all-aluminium body is lightweight and stiff, for increased agility into the corners, while aerodynamics are improved by a revised front air-splitter and side sill-extensions, revised rear spoiler and rear bumper with unique diffuser panel and unique 20' lightweight Vortex alloy wheels. The ride height of the XKR-S has been reduced by 10mm compared with that of the XKR.

Jaguar's limited edition coupé in Ultimate Black is identified by the unique XKR-S badge on the rear of the car. Inside there’s full soft-grain leather with twin-needle contrast stitching, adjustable seat bolsters, Piano Black veneer, Charcoal Alston luxury headliner plus the XKR's comprehensive standard specification.

A Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, with 525W Premium audio takes care of the soundtrack inside the car, while an Active Exhaust System puts the wind up nearby pedestrians.

On sale in summer 2008 and limited to just 200 cars in European markets only, Jag says the XKR-S is an even more driver-focused sports grand tourer than the XKR.
