Synonymous with high-performance from ultra lightweight engineering, Lotus is a famous British marque known for its compact range of cars – mostly beginning with ‘E’ that offer incredible handling and stiff rides. The current range of Lotus cars consists purely of lightweight sports cars in roadster, supercar and grand tourer sectors. At the 2010 Paris motor show Lotus announced five new models to be introduced over the next five years, though whether the cars will ever see production seems dubious.

Since its existence in 1954, Lotus has established a long lasting and famous history in the involvement of both sports cars and motor sport, particularly in Formula One. The British manufacturer was founded by Colin Chapman, himself a famous name within motor sport.

Situated in Norfolk, Lotus under Chapman’s leadership gained a reputation for innovation and competitive engineering. Today Lotus cars operate under the leadership of Dany Bahar. The company is organised as Group Lotus, which is divided into Lotus cars and Lotus engineering.

The company was bought by General Motors in 1986, and was later sold to Bugatti in 1993. However Bugatti went bankrupt in 1994, since then the company has been owned by Malaysian car manufacturer Proton.
