Honda Civic
3.5 out of 5
based on 3 reviews.
The Honda Civic is one of the more startling sights on UK roads, with its wedgey profile and space-age rear styling it was untouchable in the design stakes for much of the last decade. The rest of the small family car sector may have caught up, but the most recent Civic still looks sharp. The Honda Civic first appeared in 1973 and has appeared as a coupe, hatchback and saloon – with first-generation hybrid models selling as the Honda Civic Hybrid. The previous-generation Honda Civic, launched in 2006, was sold in Europe as a three-door and five-door hatchback.
A brand new Honda Civic is now on UK roads. At launch the new Honda Civic totalled 14 petrol and diesel models in four trim levels. New Honda Civic prices start at around £16,500 and climb to around £26,600. The Civic is only built in Swindon, the home of Honda in the UK. Our new Honda Civic review praised the new model, saying: “The new Civic is a much better riding and appreciably more refined model than the outgoing car.
“It has probably moved into the premium sector in terms of its more supple and smooth ride."

All engines in the Civic’s range provide good emissions and fuel economy figures but the flagship drivetrain is the 2.2-litre i-DTEC unit. On a combined cycle it returns 67mpg and emits 110g/km in CO2 emissions – as well as providing the best performance figures. The petrol options are also fairly economical, returning around 50mpg on their combined cycles and emissions below 140g/km.

The transmission between electric and petrol power is jerky. Handling is not far off the good drive provided by the Civic hatch if you can get the engine up to speed.
