Top ten most vandalised cars 2012 Images

Research has been published revealing the most vandalised cars on Britain's roads today.

A report from swiftcover.com studied more than 1,500 vandalism claims within the 2011/12 period, revealing that the average vandalism claim costs an average of £972.75.

However, the biggest claims can far exceed this average; the most expensive example seen in 2011 came in at £5,604.31 for a BMW 1 series.

The research also reveals the top ten cars most likely to be targeted by vandals - a list that includes some common 'everyday' cars but more commonly a collection of more premium executive motors.

Not only could this research serve as a warning to particular motorists, but the likelihood of vandalism can actually affect the price of a car's insurance premium.

#10 - BMW 3 Series

Chance of being vandalised: 1.52 per cent

Starting price: £24,880 (saloon)

The BMW 3 Series is rated the tenth most likely car to be vandalised in the UK, with a 1.52 per cent chance of falling victim to such a crime. The executive model is just the first of three BMWs to make it into this dreaded top ten.

Chance of being vandalised: 1.54 per cent

Starting price: £14,900

Ninth in the top ten cars most likely to be vandalised is the Mini Cooper with a 1.54 per cent possibility. This position is a huge leap compared to a similar study of vandalised cars during the 2010/11 period, when the Mini was rated as low as 46th.

Chance of being vandalised: 1.61 per cent

Starting price: £9,900

The eighth most likely car to be vandalised in the UK, with a 1.61 per cent chance, is the Fiat Punto. A small and ordinary family hatchback, the Punto's low pricing and low insurance category has made it popular with new young drivers but perhaps in turn has attracted unwelcome yobos as well.

Chance of being vandalised: 1.64 per cent

Starting price: £24,070 (coupe)

The Audi TT is the seventh most likely car to be vandalised in the UK, with a 1.64 per cent chance of falling victim. This is a sports car designed and built by a premium manufacturer, which is reason alone to catch the eye of vandals.

Chance of being vandalised: 1.88 per cent

Starting price: £16,490 (2012 model)

With a 1.88 per cent possibility rating, the Volkswagen Beetle is the sixth most likely car to be vandalised in the UK. The Beetle name has been around for a long time but it's always been a divisive car due in part to its unorthodox styling.

Chance of being vandalised: 2.15 per cent

Starting price: £69,995

The Range Rover is the fifth most likely car to be vandalised in the UK with a 2.15 per cent possibility. This SUV is big, thirsty on fuel and expensive to both buy and run. Therefore it's owned by the richer motorists including many celebrities, so the Range Rover is bound to attract all sorts of attention.

Chance of being vandalised: 2.37 per cent

Starting price: £45,055

The fourth most likely car to be vandalised in the UK is the BMW X5, with a 2.37 per cent possibility. This large fuel-guzzling premium SUV could only be owned by people who aren't affected that much by the current economic climate and disgruntled vandals will know that.

Chance of being vandalised: 2.39 per cent

Starting price: £9,995

The third most vandalised car in the UK is the Peugeot 207 with a 2.39 per cent chance of being targeted. This shows that even owning a small and cheap motor like the 207 can't protect you from such a crime.

Chance of being vandalised: 2.97 per cent

Starting price: £29,480

The second most vandalised car in the UK is the BMW Z4. There's a 2.97 per cent chance the roadster can be hit by such a crime. The Z4 is unsubtle and is made by a German premium manufacturer so it will attract plenty of attention if parked on the road.

Starting price: £9,960

The number one most vandalised car in the UK during 2011/12 is the Fiat 500, with a 3.62 per cent chance of attracting vandals. While the 500 is small and fairly cheap, its high customisation level and bright colour options could attract the intention of jealous or unimpressed key scratchers.
