The Ford Focus is the car to beat in the small family segment – a car as ubiquitous on British roads as it is successful as it is recognised as pretty much the benchmark in the small family car sector.
Available as a five-door hatchback, an estate, a coupe-cabriolet and – previously – as saloon and three-door hatch, the Ford Focus covers most of the bases. There’s also a hot hatch variant in the form of the Ford Focus ST and a genuine performance model in the Ford Focus RS.
First produced in 1998 as a replacement for one of the best-selling cars of all time, the Ford Escort, the Ford Focus has been one of the best-selling cars in the UK for over a decade, consistently outselling rivals in the small family car sector.

The new Focus has added powerful but efficient engines to its armoury in recent years, including the Welsh-build Ecoboost petrol engine, which promises performance with economy, and Ford has embraced the latest in car technology to bring equipment levels up to the standards of much more expensive cars.
Driver aids such as speed sign recognition, parking cameras, blind spot systems, driver alert monitoring, auto high beam headlight dimming and lane departure warnings all feature on the new Focus with an optional driver’s pack. As does a system that can theoretically prevent low-speed crashes. It gives the impression of the Focus as being a hi-tech car that has pushed the sector forward significantly.
