Ford is currently the largest car manufacturer in the UK by sales in the UK – a position it has held for some years in its battle with Vauxhall to be crowned the UK’s favourite.

With famous, seemingly ubiquitous, models like the Fiesta supermini and the landmark Focus, Ford has dominated the volume UK sectors with its range of small cars and family cars this century.

And that’s without mentioning the Mondeo, Ford’s large family car. So famous that Tony Blair created a whole new voting demographic around it.

Ford started out back in 1903 in Detroit, and founder Henry Ford became synonymous with production-line volume manufacturing. Those techniques, adopted by car manufacturers everywhere, have made Ford currently the fourth largest manufacturer of vehicles in the world.

In the UK Ford is known for its high-quality, affordable small cars – it’s fair to say that Ford models are the default choice in many sectors. Despite not building a car in the UK since 2002 Britain is still one of - if not the - most important market for Ford – and new Ford reviews and strong Ford ratings tend to earmark their models as the benchmark in the sector.
