Corvette is a performance-orientated brand that is part of the massive General Motors group. Selling a handful of cars in the UK a year, the US marque is one of the low-volume mainstream car manufacturers selling models in the UK.

Named after a famous warship, the first Corvette was unveiled to the world in 1953 as a concept car. The model impressed in its initial impact, and a production model was made in the same year. The Corvette was nearly axed though due to dismissal of it being more style over substance. However in the sixties, the Corvette came into its own. The next two generation models introduced in the sixties and seventies, both known as the Sting Ray, proved very popular in America.

The Corvette suffered a major slump in the eighties; however more generation models were introduced. In the nineties the car became established as a technologically advanced performance machine for the new millennium, and enjoyed resurgence in popularity. In 2005 Chevrolet launched what is currently the latest generation model of the Corvette, known as the C6.
