Chevrolet confirms brand new compact SUV
Chevrolet will go head-to-head with the Nissan Juke when it releases an all-new small SUV called the Trax in Spring 2013.
The Trax is closely related to another upcoming SUV, the Vauxhall Mokka, as both will share the same platform with the Vauxhall Corsa and Chevrolet Aveo superminis.
One striking difference to the Mokka is a much more muscular and rugged body design on the Trax, with bulging wheelarches and Chevrolet's trademark large grille at the front. Both cars will measure 4.28 metres long.
Very little else is confirmed at the moment regarding the Chevrolet Trax, but reports indicate the compact SUV will match the Mokka's maximum loading capacity of 1,372 litres, surpassing the Juke's 830 litres of capacity but falling short of rivals like the Qashqai which offers up to 1,513 litres.
The Chevrolet Trax is expected to offer both a front and four-wheel drive set-ups, while engines on both cars will include a 142bhp 1.4-litre turbo petrol unit and a 132bhp 1.7-litre diesel.
Back when the Vauxhall Mokka was revealed at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, it was announced the SUV would come with Forward Collision Alert, a lane departure warning system and traffic sign recognition. All of these features could also come available with the Chevrolet Trax.
More details should be confirmed when the Chevrolet Trax makes its public debut during the 2012 Paris Motor Show in September.
