A recent investigation showed that women are fleeced at the dealerships, simply for being female. The flip-side of the coin is that women are far better off in the insurance stakes.
In a recent survey, it was shown that women can be quoted a significantly different sum for a new car on a showroom floor than men or couples. However, it may well be that the difference gets ’refunded’, once insurance costs are factored in.

It’s a simple fact of life: Testosterone-laden young males are far more likely to have accidents, and vastly more likely to have serious accidents with their cars, than women of the same age. As such, insurance companies are happy to offer women a far lower premium. This has also resulted in several providers popping up that are women-only, including Diamond and Sheila’s Wheels (the ones with the abhorrently annoying television commercials).
The truth is that for young drivers, the insurance cost makes up a significant amount of money, and over a 3-year period, female drivers will have paid a lot less than their male counterparts. So much less, in fact, that the initial difference will have been annulled
A very big difference
Praise yourselves, ladies, because this gender-specific treatment isn’t done everywhere - In Norway, for example, anti gender-discrimination laws are about to kick in, which means that it will become illegal for insurance companies to insure male and female drivers a different insurance rate. Great news for men, of course, but not so for women: "We note that the government rather wants politically correct than fair insurance premiums.", a spokesman for a Norwegian insurance company says to Dagbladet.
