Skoda breaks UK sales record

Skoda has smashed its UK sales record with a month of the year still to come.
The Czech manufacturer has sold 41,313 units in the UK for the year-to-date, beating its previous annual sales record of 41,240 units, registered in 2010.
That’s enough for Skoda to claim a UK market share of 2.3 per cent and force the brand to upscale its 12 month sales targets. According to the manufacturer it is now looking to clear 45,000 sales before the year is out.
It’s an ambitious target for Skoda as it requires the best part of 4,000 sales to reach its goal and the traditionally slow trade month of December to do it in.
In 2011 so far, Skoda has only passed 4,000 sales in a month on four occasions in March, May, June and September when sales are traditionally high.
Unsurprisingly it’s September that lays claim to the manufacturer’s best performing month in terms of sales with 6,950 unit sales. March trails not far behind with 6,421 new car registrations; the two linked by the registration plate changes.
According to Skoda, its success has been split across retail and fleet sales but its most impressive records have been broken in the fleet industry. With 19,800 sales the manufacturer is up 30 per cent when compared to 2010.
