an actual production model in 2009, prior to styling taken from the
Bocanegra appearing on the forthcoming three-door Ibiza-based variant -
the SportCoupe - this November.
Having
been overwhelmed by reactions to the Bocanegra Concept, Seat has
decided to turn ‘Black Mouth’ into more than just a passing object of
automotive desires by confirming it will become this all-new SportCoupe
model's Cupra-hot figurehead in 2009.
Previously
seen as the comely precursor to Seat's new three-door SportCoupe range
debuted in March, what will aspire to become the hottest hatch in the
Spanish manufacturers line-up on its launch next year – and formed from the Bocanegra – will hitherto be called the Seat SportCoupe
Cupra Bocanegra. Or very similar.
Before
that though, and November 2008 ushers in the run-of-the-mill three-door SportCoupe range, on which the Bocanegra blueprint will
ultimately top.
The head-case Seat SportCoupe will retain the
original concept car's distinctive nose, and being equipped with 180bhp
courtesy of the self-same 1.4-litre twin-turbo FSI power plant housed
in the concept, this perspex-snout will probably gravel-snort hot hatch
rivals into submission.
What's
more, the full-blooded SportCoupe will be brought that much closer to
the ground by its asphalt-grappling bodykit mated to a seven-speed
semi-automatic DSG transmission. A panoramic glass sunroof will also be
a fixture and fitting on the ceiling.
However,
further detailed mutterings regarding any of the upcoming Seat
SportCoupe model range, tech spec and prices remain unfulfilled at this
early stage, but we'll keep you posted as and when.
