Land Rover has completely overhauled the Freelander 2 and declared it is 'better than ever' after updates to engines, exterior and the interior.
The rugged Freelander 2 off-roader is the brand's best-selling model in the UK and was updated as recently as 2011 with a new 2.2-litre engine and two-wheel drive option - the first ever Land Rover to offer the configuration.

Now the brand is focusing on overhauling the design and interior of the premium SUV with a raft of changes and two new equipment-packed trim levels.
The model has been extended two include two new derivatives - the Dynamic and the HSE Lux to complement the existing entry-level Freelander S, GS, HSE and XS models. Newer, more-refined diesel engines have also been added.
New features on the Freelander 2 include front and rear Xenon LED lights and updated visuals. The Freelander 2's exterior now has a sportier look, while three colours have been added to the Freelander range, including Aintree Green, Havana and Mauritius Blue.
The interior sees a slew of new features for the SUV. Buyers have the option of choosing a premium Meridian audio system, available with either of 380W or 825W depending on the trim. Alongside this is a 7-inch colour touch-screen, an electric handbrake to replace the standard manual one, terrain response controls and more.
Also included is 'Say What You See' - a voice activation system with visual prompts, and rear view camera capability which lets driver access most of the car's main functions via voice control.
Engines available for the Freelander 2 include the 2.2-litre 150PS TD4 and 190PS SD4 with four-wheel drive. The two-wheel drive eD4 derivative achieves 47.1mpg (6.0 L/100km) and CO2 emissions of 158g/km.
Land Rover claims that the Freelander 2 will be better than ever thanks to its new features. The XS range has also been updated to include a gloss-black grille surround and a 380W Meridian sound system.
"The Freelander 2's equipment levels bring a more premium look and feel to the overall driving experience. In addition, our customers continue to benefit from our refined and economical range of diesel engines," says John Edwards, Land Rover Global Brand Director.
The 2013 Land Rover Freelander 2 will go on sale in October this year, with the first public viewing expected to happen at this year's Moscow International Motor Show on 29 August. Freelander 2 prices start from £22,700.
