Available in Coupe and Cabriolet guise, the new rear-wheel drive Porsche 911 Carrera GTS ‘ascends to the pinnacle of the Carrera model series’, according to the German firm. It will make its debut at the Paris Motor Show this month before going on sale in December.
The 3.8-litre flat six engine that powers the new 911 Carrera GTS has been subject to ‘special attention’ by Porsche in order to produce 408bhp and 310 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpm - 28 more horses and 200rpm earlier than the Carrera S it succeeds.

This is due to the new resonance intake manifold that features six vacuum-controlled tuning flaps that switch between power- and torque-optimised geometry. The Carrera S only featured one tuning flap.

This uprated powertrain is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, but the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) double clutch transmission is available as a cost extra.
The combination of the flat six and the manual gearbox results in an improved top speed of 190mph (compared to 188mph) and 62mph from standing takes 4.2 seconds – a 0.1 second improvement on the S model.
Despite the bettered performance, staying true to the Porsche Intelligent Performance philosophy fuel consumption is not affected; the new Carrera GTS returns 27.7mpg – exactly the same as its predecessor. CO2 emissions stand at 240g/km, also.
The 911 Carrera GTS sits on gloss black 19-inch centre-locking RS Spyder alloy wheels, wrapped in 235/35 ZR tyres upfront and 305/30s at the rear. Other external features include a black SportDesign front apron with spoiler edge, black side skirts and the Carrera GTS logotype on the doors and rear lid.
Inside the cabin, centre sections of the sport seats are covered with black Alcantara, as are the steering wheel, handbrake and gear lever. Also included as standard is Porsche’s Thatcham-approved Vehicle Tracking System (VTS).
The new Porsche 911 Carrera GTS makes its global debut at the Paris Motor Show this month before going on sale in December. Prices start at £76,758 for the Coupe and £83,493 for the Cabriolet.
