This is only the second SUV Lamborghini has ever made, following the LM002 launched back in 1986.
The Urus features a large but lightweight coupe bodyshell made of carbon-fibre, which is also used for the chassis. It also has a large front spoiler which is height adjustable to improve the car's cornering abilities.
Lamborghini have not revealed what exact engine the Urus will use, but several reports suggest the SUV will use either a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 shared with Audi or possibly a 6.0-litre W12, the same engine found on some current Bentley models.
No word has been given on performance figures for the Urus, but Lamborghini says it will become the fastest accelerating production 4x4 ever.
Expect then the 0-62mph sprint time to undercut 4.7 seconds, currently set by the pacesetting BMW X6M.
Lamborghini also intends the Urus to have the lowest CO2 output for its vehicle sector.
To help it towards this goal, the SUV will feature fuel-saving technology like a stop-start engine system and a brake energy recuperation feature. There are even rumours the production Urus will be a plug-in hybrid SUV.
Inside the Lamborghini Urus features a four-seat cabin which is expected to be focused on comfort but also conventionally designed.
Lamborghini is targeting 3,000 sales annually for the Urus SUV when it eventually goes on sale.
The Urus is set to enter production in 2016, with pricing for the final model estimated at £150,000.
