The deal, announced yesterday, could see Nanjing collaborate with the holders of the Healey name - with
Healey Automobile Consultants Ltd and HFI Automotive Ltd – on future Healey- and Austin-Healey-brand cars.
Nanjing recently restarted production of the MG TF roadster at Longbridge after buying the rights to the
marque following the collapse of MG Rover.
Fellow Chinese manufacturer SAIC has also started production of Rover 75-platform Roewe 750s in China.
The Nanjing/Healey deal should see the revival of another British brand following long-term disputes over
trademarks and brands.
HFI bought out Healey Automobile Consultants Ltd – owned by Donald Healey and his son – in 2006 and
announced their intention to build a “high-performance sports car with the DNA of a Healey 3000 - in convertible
and coupe derivatives, as well as a modern affordable replacement for the much-loved Healey Sprite."
Nanjing were thought to be keen to use the Healey name last year on one of its ranges – recognizing the
cache of the British brands – but it is not known what form Nanjing’s Healey and Austin-Healey cars will take.
News as soon as we get it on that Allegro revival.
