Mia Electric enters UK market

Mia Electric Vehicles will enter a model in this year’s RAC Future Car Challenge as it looks to boost exposure before its three-car launch in the UK.
The Franco-German company was founded last year and the Mia L will be the first model to enter the public realm during the race.
It’s a four-seat car measuring just over three metres in length, has a top speed of almost 70mph but more importantly, it is powered by electricity.
Richard Deslandes of Mia EV, said: "We could not have asked for more perfect timing for our participation in the RAC Future Car Challenge, the event coincides with the debut launch of the Mia range of electric vehicles in the UK.
“We are very proud of our innovative urban cars, proud to be associated with the RAC Future Car Challenge and very confident in the future for our cars in the UK."
Two other models will join the Mia L when it arrives in UK towards the end of this year.
The smallest in the range is the three-seat Mia which uses an individual driving position at the front of the model with two individual seats behind. The other model is a Mia box van which features just one individual seat for the driver in the front-centre of the car.
All Mia vehicles will have a range of around 80 miles according to the company.
However, the Mia models will not actually officially be classed as cars, instead they will fall under the term ‘quadricycles’ alongside the likes of the G-Whiz.
This means benefits in terms of taxation, but it also means the Mia will not be subject to standard safety testing for cars in Europe – a regular criticism of the G-Whiz in recent years.
The RAC Future Car Challenge sees a range of efficient and green cars – from electric to low-emission petrol cars – race from Brighton to London with the winner being the car with the most efficient powertrain – the car that uses the least amount of energy.
