Land Rover has debuted the LRX concept at the Detroit Auto Show, in the shape of an SUV coupe
crossover powered by a diesel hybrid.
The hybrid LRX emits 120g/km of CO2 and will return 55mpg, according to Land Rover. The concept runs on electric
power only up to 20moh and provides a torque injection if required in difficult conditions.
Land Rover expects the LRX in hybrid form - which is smaller and shorter than the Freelander - to go into
production in four years, with diesel, petrol and performance models due around 2010, assuming the LRX gets the
nod from Land Rover´s new owners, widely thought to be Tata.
Many of the materials features inside the car are biodegradable, with plastic side windows and roof, aluminium,
carpeting made of felt from sustainable sources and door inserts made from recycled bottles.
•Jaguar has received 5,000 firm orders for the new XF – ahead of expectations, according to Jaguar
executives. Customer deliveries start in March.
• Ford has announced that Tata is now the only bidder for Jaguar and Land-Rover. The deal is likely to include
a stipulation that Tata cannot close any of the Jaguar or Land-Rover plants for a minimum of five years –
safeguarding jobs at Halewood and Solihull for that period.
