Ford is showing off its Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) prototype based on the Ford Focus, an electric model scheduled to take part in the government's electric vehicle trials in 2010.
15 prototype Ford Focus BEV vehicles will take part in the trial in and around the London Borough of Hillingdon from early 2010.

The new Ford Focus BEV prototype is based on the current European Ford Focus and will use a new all-electric powertrain, provided by parts supplier Magna, based on technology developed for Ford's new global C platform.
The Ford Focus prototypes are powered by a lithium-ion battery pack and a chassis-mounted electric motor developing 134bhp, with maximum torque of 236lb-ft meaning a top speed of 85mph.
The BEV will have a range of up to 75 miles and a top speed of up to 85mph. Charging the batteries will take between six to eight hours using a common 230 volt grid.
• Also on display at Frankfurt is the Tourneo Connect BEV Concept, a commercial electric vehicle concept.
Full battery-electric conversions for the Ford Transit and Transit Connect commercial vehicles are already marketed in Europe by UK-based specialist, Smith Electric Vehicles.
The Tourneo Connect BEV Concept shows how this silent, zero-emission full battery electric technology could be deployed in passenger vehicles for urban applications such as taxis or hotel shuttles.
