The exterior has been completely reworked to differentiate it from the Sebring, which was criticised for uninspired design and poor performance.
The Chrysler 200’s all-new front end is expected to foreshadow the brand’s new ‘face’, which includes a new grille featuring the Chrysler winged logo and new headlamps.
LED technology is installed in the rear headlights and the teaser images show fog lights are also included.
Engine choice range from a 2.4-litre engine to a 278bhp 3.6-litre V6 matched to an automatic gearbox – a popular choice in the US.
Inside, Chrysler has moved away from the Sebring’s interior with new instrument panel, seats, and better quality materials throughout.
Unlike the larger 300C, the Chrysler 200 will not be sold in the UK, but US sales will start this year.
Chrysler is not a big seller in the UK, with sales so far this year eclipsing 1,000. The brand has a minimal market share of just 0.19 per cent in the UK market.
Fiat owns a 35 per cent stake in Chrysler as part of its strategy to expand operations in the US. In return, Fiat will share its technology with Chrysler.
This means, by 2014, Chrysler will be using Fiat platforms on many of its models in a cost-cutting exercise.
