Is Britain's worst driver a 19 year-old dance teacher in a black BMW? Insurance companies seem to think so.

The term 'Britain's worst drivers' is thrown around a lot in the automotive industry, with rumours that certain occupations can somehow inflict an attitude of hopelessness on the road.

Well, according to a recent survey by Tiger insurance, this is right on the money - particularly if you are a dance teacher.

The study revealed that out of the 313 occupations featured, the number one for convictions (which may include parking tickets, speeding and clamping) were Dance Teachers.

Dance Teachers tallied the highest average of miles driven per conviction - with an average of 23,500 miles per mishap - which when compared to their average annual mileage of 7134, is around one driving conviction every 3 years.

Other high-octane occupations include Enrolled Nurse in third place, as they receive a conviction every 26,879 miles, and Funeral Director in eight place, receiving a driving conviction every 30,800 miles.

Some of the more stereotyped occupations that are usually given adverse reputations delivered some interesting results, as Taxi Driver fell into 74th place in the table and Builder into 126th.

Even more surprising were the table toppers at the far end, with Dental Technician at 313th and Student in 309th.

The Student occupation may be one of the lowest convicted as most students have just passed their test, therefore the gruelling specifics of careful driving is fresher in their mind - even outdoing driving instructors in the best-behaved driver charts.

After a study into 270,000 different insurance quotes, Tiger insurance was able to pull apart each quote and split them into occupations, average annual mileage and average mileage per conviction.

After looking at the results of this survey, we at Motortorque thought it would be interesting to dig out a few more details from other surveys around the web and build up an extensive 'bad driver profile'.

In a past study by automotive experts AA, consisting of more than 14,000 drivers, it was discovered that a quarter of all younger drivers crash in the first six months of passing their test, making younger drivers more of a danger on the road. Younger male drivers were also deemed more dangerous as the speeding boy-racer reputation comes in to play.

In another online survey by insurers ingenie.com, it was revealed that BMW drivers were the most aggressive on the road, followed by Peugeot and Jaguar drivers. It was also confirmed that the most rage driven car was coloured black.

So, according to online surveys, Britain's most dangerous and convicted driver is a 19 year old male Dance Teacher who drives a black BMW and travels an average of 7134 miles a year.
