Nissan has continued its product offensive with refreshed versions of the Pathfinder and Navara on show at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
Hot on the heels of the new Nissan Juke, the Pathfinder SUV and Navara pick-up have been given a mid-life update including a new diesel engine, improved safety, enhanced styling and new equipment.
The facelift for Europe’s best-selling pick-up emphasises Nissan’s desire to remain competitive in the four-wheel drive market.
A new 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine is now available for both the Pathfinder and Navara models. The engine is made from Compacted Graphite Iron (CGI), an increasingly popular material with designers due to its stiffening and noise reducing qualities.
The new engine returns power output of 229bhp and class-leading torque of 550Nm. Coupled with the 3.0 diesel, the Pathfinder is capable of towing a 3500kg trailer and the Navara 3000kg.
The current 2.5 dCi four cylinder engine, the most popular in the range, has been refined to offer better performance. An 11 per cent increase in both power and torque sees power increase to 180bhp and torque to 450Nm from previous figures of 179bhp and 403Nm respectively.
As well as improved performance, fuel economy and lower emissions have been reduced in the 2.5 dCi. Emissions figures have dropped by 40g/km to 224g/km on a combined cycle.
Both models have increased in length by 80mm and been given completely redesigned front ends. This includes a new bonnet, grille and bumpers. The Pathfinder now features a new rear bumper with squared off edges.
Headlamp washers, an option for 18" alloy wheels and two new metallic colour options (one for the Pathfinder) complete the exterior facelift.
Inside, both models feature new switchgear, door trims, seat fabric, chrome highlights and revised dials.
Already available in the Pathfinder, the Navara now boasts Nissan’s Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and a rear view camera.
A new navigation system, Nissan Connect Premium, is an optional extra for both models. The system features a 40GB hard drive with a high resolution touch screen and 3D Birdview display.
Both models will go on display at the Geneva Motor Show before going on sale in the UK in April 2010. The flagship 3.0-litre V6 diesel will be available two months after the launch of the revised models.
